Electric Scooter Reviews

man on scooter

Electric scooters differ in terms of their speed, range, pricing and aesthetic. The right scooter for you will very much depend on the intended use. Is it for the daily commute? A fun run around at the weekends, or maybe you are buying an electric scooter for your kid.

Let’s investigate some of the best models currently available.

1. BEST FOR COMMUTERS: Glion Dolly Foldable Lightweight Adult Electric Scooter

Glion Dolly Foldable Lightweight Adult Electric Scooter

The Glion Dolly Foldable Lightweight Adult Electric Scooter is a fantastic option for those with a short commute, or last miles commute to and from a station or carpark.

It features an extremely convenient foldable design, allowing you to pack the entire scooter away in an easy to carry bag.

Under the hood is a whisper-quiet 250 Watt Nameplate (600 Watt Peak) Brushless DC hub motor. For low maintenance, this is also gearless and chainless.

Glion Dolly Foldable Lightweight Adult Electric Scooter 2

The top speed is impressive at 15mph. The Premium 36V, 7.8ah Lithium-Ion Battery has a fast charge time of 3.5hrs and will provide an operational range of 15 miles once fully charged.

Safety issues are well taken care of with the electronic antilock brake placed in the rear hub motor. This has also been designed to be maintenance-free.

They even include a pedestrian bell so that you can warn others that you are about to fly by.

Glion Dolly Foldable Lightweight Adult Electric Scooter

The patented dolly and vertical self-standing design of the scooter means you can fold everything away in a just 1-second via the simple foot-actuated folding mechanism. The storage bag is also included as part of the package.

Finally, the military tech honeycomb hard-wearing rubber tires are airless, which again adds to the overall low maintenance, ever-ready nature of the scooter.

The Cons
  • The extra features mean a higher price point than other models in our top 10

Bottom Line

The Glion Dolly Foldable Lightweight Adult Electric Scooter is a top pick option for commuters for good reason. Quality, lightweight design with an excellent easy to use fold and carry system, this scooter provides convenience in spades.

Add all that to the low maintenance motor with 15mph top speed and fast charge battery and you have a top solution for those wanting to inject some fun into their journey to work.

2. Swagtron Swagger 5 – High Speed Electric Scooter

While by no means the best quality electric scooter in our top 10, the Swagtron, Swagger 5 makes the list based on that really cool name alone.

We jest, actually the scooter features an interesting Bluetooth function meaning you can link it up to your Android or IOS device.

More on that in a moment.

Specs-wise the Swagger 5 is more than competitive with the 250w electric hub motor actually providing a top speed of up to 18mph, (in other words it is one of the faster scooters in our top 10).

It also has enough power to carry the rider along inclines up to 20 degrees, (would still struggle through much of central San Francisco however).

The ‘Charge & Go’ Li-ion battery has a 3.5 hour charge time. An operational distance of between 6-12 miles is rather low though.

The Swagger 5 folds in three steps and is easy to carry around for the commuter, (the unit only weighs 27.5 lbs).

The lightweight aluminum design is sturdy enough however, with recommended maximum weight capacity being as high as 320 lbs.

28psi is the advised air pressure for the 8.5” cushioned tires as letting this slide will impact the performance of the scooter in terms of speed and range.

Stopping is smoothly taken care of via the ABS e-braking system or the inbuilt rear disc brakes.

So what about that cell phone connectivity? Once you have downloaded the app you can actually monitor real-time stats such as speed and distance covered as well as GPS tracking. You can also use your phone to access additional features such as cruise control.

For those that love a gadget, this really does make the Swagger 5 a very interesting option.

  • 41.5 x 17 x 19 in / 105.4 x 43.1 x 48.2 cm (folded),
  • 41.5 x 17 x 45.3 in / 105.4 x 43.1 x 115 cm (unfolded)
  • Frame: Aluminum Alloy,
  • Front Tires: Air-filled Rubber Tires (motorized),
  • Rear Tires: Airless Honeycomb
  • Brakes: Disc Brakes
  • Motor: 250W Front Hub Motor
  • Riding Modes: 3 Speed Modes, Cruise Control
  • Connectivity: iOS and Android App via Bluetooth
  • Max. Throttle Speed: 18 mph / 29 km/h
  • Mile Range: 11 mi / 17.7 km
  • Climbing Capacity: 20°
  • Battery: Lithium-Ion 36V 6Ah
  • Charge Time: ~3.5 hours
  • Bell
  • Headlight
  • Phone Mount
  • Kickstand
Pros of the Swagtron Swagger 5 - High Speed Electric Scooter
  • Portable and foldable – collapses for easy storage after the commute
  • 250W electric hub motor – high speeds up to 18 miles per hour
  • Can power up inclines as much as 20 degrees
  • Lightweight at 27. 5 lbs. yet can support riders up to 320 pounds (145 kilograms)
  • Cool smartphone connectivity for real-time data, GPS tracking and cruise control
The Cons
  • Air-filled tires which can lead to punctures
  • Low Tire Pressure Drastically reduces speed & range
  • Li-ion battery only provides 6~12 miles of travel depending on terrain

Bottom Line

The Swagger 5 has some great features, the Bluetooth phone connectivity and high 18mph top-end speed are two of them.

However, this electric scooter does not have the efficiency as some of the other commuter directed models in this review round up. The 6-12 mile operation distance is also troublesome.

3. XPRIT Folding Electric Kick Scooter

The XPRIT Folding Electric Kick Scooter is another lower priced model that might appeal to those jumping on a scooter for the first time and are testing the waters so to speak.

However, the main issue here (and may well mean that the commuter should look elsewhere) is that the unit is not fully waterproof.

In fact, the manufacturers clearly advise that the XPRIT folding electric scooter not be used on wet roads or in the rain. (Also, buyers should be warned that any water damage is not covered under the warranty.)

That being said, in dry conditions this easy to use, aluminum alloy framed scooter does have a completely foldable design and with a top speed of 12.4 mph will get you around at a moderate lick.

It does lack the sturdiness of other models we have reviewed, (max capacity here is only 200 lbs), however for the slight of build this unit provides some fun acceleration speeds with its high torque motor.

A single charge will only give you 8-13 miles of operational distance so again, the unit is really only designed for a short run-around in appealing weather conditions.

Pros of the XPRIT Folding Electric Kick Scooter
  • Fun, affordable scooter designed for short distances
  • 8-13 miles on single charge; top speed of 12.4 mph
  • Full aluminium alloy frame, lightweight and durable and capable of fast acceleration
  • Easy to store with a small folding size of 38″x15.7″x15.7″
The Cons
  • Only supports 200 lbs max weight
  • Should not be used in the wet, (no warranty coverage for water damage)

Bottom Line

Overall the XPRIT Folding Electric Kick Scooter is a fun little unit at an affordable price point. It folds up into convenient carry and storage dimensions and is easy to pick up and use.

However, the low top speed and travel range along with the fact you cannot use the scooter in the wet will be a problem for some.

4. BEST FOR SPEED/RANGE: NANROBOT D4+ High Speed Electric Scooter [40mph & 45mile Range]

The NanRobot D4+ is the electric scooter of choice for those that want to cover long distances and speed.

In fact, the specifications here really do throw most other scooters out of the ballpark. Just look at that title; 40mph, 45-mile range, 2000W motor capable of carrying loads up to 330lbs.

Let’s digest that for a moment. 40mph is almost triple the top speed of other units in our top 10. A 45-mile range off one charge is an extremely long operating duration.

Of course, this all comes at a price. The trade-off here is that this is an expensive electric scooter costing more than 4 figures.

NANROBOT D4+ electric scooter

Breaking it all down more however, the Nanorobot actually has 2 powerful 1000W motors that control each wheel independently.

With a combined 2000W power under the hood, you can easily climb 30-degree hills while using one of these scooters.

Those impressive top speeds and ranges are made possible by the 23.4Ah 52V lithium battery.

When traveling such long distances, you will want comfort. Here the Nanrobot D4+ delivers in the form of 6 shock absorbers & 10″ pneumatic tires.

The scooter features suitable braking considering the high maximum speed. You can stop safely by employing the front and rear EBS disc brake system.

Finally, the quick folding mechanism allows you to have everything minimized for easy carry within seconds.

  • Before folding 47H*43L*8W (inch)
  • After folding 12H*43L*8W (inch).
  • Max Load: 150 kg/330 lb
  • Max speed:40MPH
  • Max Climbing Ability 30°
  • Charge Time: 8-10 hours
  • Product Dimensions:49*45*10 inches
  • Item Weight: 70 lb
  • Material: Aluminum frame
  • Color: black
  • Battery: lithium battery
  • Controller current: 25A * 2
  • Warranty: 1 year (motors & frame) / 180days (battery & controllers )
Pros of the NANROBOT D4+High Speed Electric Scooter
  • Exceptional long operational range of 45 miles off one charge
  • Two powerful 1000W motors controlling each wheel independently
  • 4Ah 52V lithium battery capable of providing a 40 mph top speed
  • Foldable design
  • Comfortable ride via 6 shock absorbers & 10″ pneumatic tires
  • Front and rear EBS disc brake system
The Cons
  • The Nanrobot is an expensive electric scooter

Bottom Line

The NANROBOT D4+ is the best electric scooter on the market for those that want to cover long distances at speed.

The specifications speak for themselves. This does put it in the realm of more confident users with the budget to match however.

5. Xiaomi Mi Electric Scooter

The Xiaomi Mi Electric Scooter is another mid-priced unit that delivers in terms of features and specifications.

First off the 250w motor has the capability of delivering a top speed of 15.5 mph. However, where it really shines is the maximum travel range of up to 18.6 miles, (see further details in the ‘travel distance’ tab below).

Foldability is good too, with this lightweight model weighing just 26.9lbs and capable of being hand-carry small once packed away.

The frame is made of aerospace-grade aluminum which always sounds good. In layman’s terms the unit should be nice and sturdy.

However, it should be noted that a minority of customers have had an issue with the overall build quality, with some of the frame components (particularly the handlebar fixtures) becoming faulty after minimum use.

With regard to stopping, the Xiaomi Mi Electric Scooter features a double braking system of disc brakes and eABS regenerative anti-lock brakes.

The cruise control operation is simple and intuitive. Once you have achieved an optimum speed, placing both feet on the scooter base while pressing the accelerator will cause the unit to maintain that current speed.

Finally, the manufacturers can boast that the design of the Mi Electric Scooter was awarded the Red Dot “Best of the Best” Award in 2017 as well as the iF Design Award 2017.

It hasn’t caused them to provide a competitive warranty with the scooter, however, which is a blow to paying customers.

  • Item Weight: 26.9 lbs
  • Load Range: 55-220 lbs
  • Max Speed: Approx. 15.5 mph
  • Travel Distance: Approx. 18.6 miles
  • Power Structure: 30 x 18650 lithium battery units
  • Battery Capacity: 280Wh
  • Charging Time: Approx. 5 hours
  • Assembled Product Dimensions: 42.5 x 16.9 x 44.9 inches
  • Folded Product Dimensions: 42.5 x 16.9 x 19.3 inches
  • Recommended Tire Pressure: 50 psi (It is suggested to check the tire pressure once every two to three months.)
Package Contents:
  • Assembled Electric Scooter,
  • Extended Nozzle Adapter,
  • 4 x Screws,
  • Hexagon Wrench,
  • 2 x Tires,
  • Charging Adapter,
  • User Manual,
  • Legal Statement,
  • Quick Start Guide,
  • Warranty Card
Travel Distance

The specified travel distances (as well as the maximum range of 18.6 miles) was measured using the following variables:

  • 3 pounds load,
  • 77°F weather temperatures,
  • flat road without strong winds,
  • power-saving mode,
  • and 9.3 mph constant speeds.

As such, riders should be warned that individual results will vary based on their specific weight load, ambient temperatures, wind and unit speed as well as other factors.

Pros of the Xiaomi Mi Electric Scooter
  • Award-winning minimalist, folding design
  • Powerful 250W motor capable of delivering speeds up to 15.5 MPH.
  • 6 miles of travel under a single charge (under specific conditions)
  • Lightweight 26.9 lbs build made of aerospace-grade aluminum
  • Responsive double disc braking system
The Cons
  • Tire pressure will have an impact on operational efficiency and needs to be regularly checked
  • Some users have had problems with the handlebar mount, with it becoming loose to the detriment of safety

Bottom Line

Overall the Mi Electric Scooter has good and bad points in equal measure. While the design has won awards, it seems that in some cases components of the finished unit can fail too soon.

It does have an excellent operational range, but again variables will dictate exactly how far you can expect to travel off one charge.

In short, there are better electric scooters available at a similar price point; the Glion Dolly Foldable Adult Electric Scooter being one of them.

6. Costzon Electric Scooter

The Costzon electric scooter made our top 10 because it is aimed at a slightly different demographic to many of the other electric scooters reviewed here.

Built with teenagers aged 14+ in mind, the unit can only support riders up to 155lbs in size.

The top speed is only 7.5mph and all things considered, the average working commuter will not be interested in this model.

However, as a fun way for a teen to zip about or maybe even a student on the college campus, the Costzon represents a completely viable choice of scooter. The price point is set accordingly too.

The scooter is both foldable and offers an adjustable handlebar height to accommodate different ages of rider.

The motor, albeit light in power, is high torque and quiet. The unit is operated via a simple twist-grip throttle.

Specs on the 24V seal battery system do not really compete with the other offerings reviewed here. Charge time is 6 – 8hrs with the maximum operating distance being a bit more impressive at 9.5 miles.

The hand-operated rear brake is simple and accessible to use, the unit also has a spring-loaded kickstand, and large 6-inch PU tires.

Pros of the Costzon Electric Scooter
  • Easy to pick up and use for teenagers and young adults
  • Very affordable, price point aimed at the younger market
  • Quiet chain-driven motor with twist-grip throttle
  • A safe maximum speed of only 7.5mph
  • Easy to operate handle rear brake system
  • Large 6-inch PU tires for a smooth ride
The Cons
  • Rechargeable 24V Seal battery system has a 6-8 hr charge time
  • 155lbs max weight

Bottom Line

As far as being suitable for younger riders the Costzon really does deliver. Safe low maximum speed and a reduced price point will make this a good buy for those it applies to.

However, these same restricted specs will make it a non-starter for many. The charge time will feel long, the speed slow and the unit may well not be designed to hold your weight anyway.

7. BEST FOR KIDS: Razor E100 Electric Scooter

The Razor E100 is a top selling children’s electric scooter that balances affordable price point with safe speed and power (the top end clocking up to 10mph), and a pleasing design and build quality.

Let’s take a closer look.

The scooter accelerates via a twist grip control, with a hand-operated braking system connected to the handle. The maximum weight capacity is a light, 120lbs with the recommended rider age of 8 years and up.

The motor is a high torque chain-driven model, powered by a 24volt battery (that is included in the package).

One of the real benefits of the Razor E100 is the fact this battery has such a short charge time while providing up to 40 minutes continuous use once fully charged.

The ride is comfortable too, with the 8-inch pneumatic front tire providing plenty of cushion on most roads. The rear wheel is constructed from 125mm urethane.

As with any type of electric scooter you decide to buy, you will need to take heed of local laws and regulations to ensure where you can ride and what type of safety equipment is required; i.e whether wearing a helmet is mandatory.

Any return issues are dealt with Razor directly.

Pros of the Razor E100 Electric Scooter
  • An affordable, fun to use electric scooter
  • Twist grip throttle acceleration control with easy to use handle brake system
  • High torque chain fed electric motor capable of speeds up to 10 mph
  • Short and convenient charge time (quality long battery)
  • Up to 40 minutes of continuous use with a fully charged battery
The Cons
  • Lacks the top speed of some other models in our top 10
  • Is not fully foldable in the way most scooters are

Bottom Line

The Razor E100 is a perfect child’s entry way into using an electric scooter. Affordable and fun with a adequate top speed, your young ones will be up and running with this in minutes.

Add that to the quick charge time and generous operational period of one charge and you have scooter that will zoom them about with no problems at all.

8. Maxtra E100 Electric Scooter Motorized Scooter

Here we have another, lightweight electric scooter designed to accommodate young riders.

In fact, the recommended maximum weight of people using the Maxtra is 160lbs, with the scooter being directed towards children aged 6+.

With that demographic in mind, it is unfair to compare this ride to others reviewed here. So let’s take a look at the specifications with the target rider in mind.

First off the top speed is a fairly zippy 12mph (I probably wouldn’t want my 6-year-old cruising about at that speed without suitable protective clothing and helmet).

The rechargeable 24V battery provides up to 60 minutes of continuous use, which will certainly keep your child happy while riding the pavement outside your home.

Like all good electric scooters within the budget price range, the Maxtra boasts a high-torque yet quiet chain-driven motor.

The stainless steel frame is not particularly groundbreaking in any way, however, it should withstand the use of general child’s play.

The ‘maintenance-free’ 5″ PU Tires will provide a nice soft ride. Extra safety details such as the non-slip handles and retractable kickstand are a nice addition considering your child will be using it.

Furthermore, for peace of mind, it is good to know that the scooter is CE/ASTM/ETL/ROHS Certificated. A 1-year free replacement parts service is provided by the manufacturer.

Pros of the Maxtra E100 Electric Scooter
  • A budget-priced, CE/ASTM/ETL/ROHS Certificated Electric Scooter
  • Rechargeable 24V battery that is able to provide 60 minutes of continuous use.
  • Quiet, chain-driven motor capable of 12mph.
  • Non-slip handles and retractable kickstand
  • Strong customer service team with 1-year free replacement parts service.
The Cons
  • A minority of customers have received scooters with faulty components; however, in most cases, good after-sales service has rectified the issue with speed.

Bottom Line

It is hard to fault the Maxtra E100 as an electric scooter designed for young children. It has good top speed at 12mph and more than the satisfactory run time of 60 minutes per charge.

Build quality does leave a little to be desired when compared to other scooters in our top 10, however this should be expected at the budget price point.

9. QIEWA Q1Hummer Electric Scooter [37MPH / Range Up to 65 Miles]

The QIEWA Q1Hummer is a scooter aimed at a similar rider as our top pick Nanrobot; i.e those that need to cover long distances at speed.

It also commands a similar stretch to the purse strings with this being substantially more expensive than other models available.

Under the hood is an 800w motor capable of powering the scooter along at a hair-flapping 37mph.

As far as range goes, the QIEWA is the best in our top 10. This scooter can travel a formidable 65 miles on just one charge.

Hilly terrain is also not a problem, with the power levels comfortable with inclines up to 35 degrees.

The max load weight also makes the Q1 Hummer a best-in-class unit; the capability here is a whopping 550lbs.

A comfortable ride is made possible with durable 10” pneumatic tires. These have anti-slip treads which are great considering the scooter is IP65 waterproof.

Other premium features include dual shock absorbers, an anti-theft remote key system, and double disk brakes.

  • Quick-Folding design
  • IP65 waterproof with 10” pneumatic tires and dual shock absorption
  • Anti-theft key system
The Cons
  • Expensive
  • In case of malfunction, some users have complained of lackluster customer service response.

Bottom Line

Overall, the QIEWA Q1Hummer is a high-performance electric scooter capable of some impressive top speeds and extremely long drive range. It can also take a load too with the max capacity being 550lbs.

Just be warned that should you receive a defective model, the customer service can be problematic.

10. E-twow Electric Scooter

The E-Twow fully portable scooter is another great option for commuters.

One of the main selling points here is its lightweight design. At only 23.9lbs this is one of the lightest adult electric scooters currently available. (The maximum load capacity for the scooter is 250 lbs.)

There’s some interesting technology at play here too. The manufacturers have used KERS (kinetic energy recover system) by harnessing energy through regenerative braking.

The 24v, 6.5 amp battery is able to provide a top speed of 16mph, with a range up to 16 miles. Not only is this more than enough for last miles commuting, the fact that it takes less than 2 hours to charge means you could plug this in at the office and have a fully ready unit for the ride home.

The scooter is easy to fold away and takes little space being just 11” when fully folded. (You could place this beneath the office desk during the day with no problems).

Other additional features include an LED screen, horn for warning others of your presence as well as an easy to operate cruise control.

For a comfortable ride, the E-twow also has front and rear shocks as standard.

Finally, the manufacturer backs their product with a one-year limited warranty (scooter and parts) with 6 months for battery or (1500 miles, whatever comes first).

Head here for the full E-twow scooter specifications page

Pros of the E-twow electric scooter
  • Ultra lightweight design weighing only 23.9lbs.
  • Total speed: 16 mph
  • Travel distance: 16 miles (2hrs charge time)
  • Features KERS (kinetic energy recovery system) and regenerative braking.
  • Foldable design measuring just 11” long once in storage mode.
The Cons
  • Misses out to the Glion Dolly Foldable top pick commuter scooter based on overall reputation. (In our opinion the Glion is the better buy)

Bottom Line

A top quality commuter aimed electric scooter, with enhanced features such as the KERS system making it worthy of attention.

However, at a similar price point and specification it does lose out to our top pick from Glion.

What to consider when buying an electric scooter

commute nanrobot

As the electric scooter reviews section will have highlighted above, there’s a wide range of models available. These vary widely in the specifications that they have.

In order to buy the right scooter for you, there are various things to consider.

Let’s take a look.

Maximum Travel Range

In our opinion, the single most important factor is how far you can expect to travel on the scooter from a single charge.

This is clearly linked to your intended use. If you need a long travel range because you plan on covering large distances (either for commuting or for general leisure) you will need to purchase an appropriate scooter.

Generally, the further you can travel on one charge, the more expensive the scooter. Top-end models have ranges over 40 miles. This is because they have larger, more powerful batteries that can hold more charge.

Mid range priced electric scooters have a travel range of between 10 and 20 miles. This is useful for last mile commuting, or short trips to run errands etc.

Lower priced models and those designed for children will have a range closer to 10 miles and may even be measured in minutes (40-60 minutes of use from one charge being common).

It should be noted that maximum travel range will depend on various conditions; rider weight, weather conditions and terrain (is the landscape full of inclines?) will all have an impact.

Top Speed

The majority of mid range scooters will have a top speed that will suit most commuters. That speed is between 12 and 18mph.

Any faster and the rider may be infringing local road safety laws, (you’re basically entering in the arena where the scooter needs to be registered as a vehicle if higher speeds are being attained).

When traveling on roads or in bike lanes, 15-18 mph is a safe and appropriate speed.

High performance electric scooters have top speeds over 40mph. Clearly these are designed for more experienced users and safety gear should be worn at all times.

Weight Capacity

Weight capacity is another important factor that needs to be considered when buying an electric scooter.

If you are a rider of a specific weight, you will need to find a model that will comfortable accommodate your load.

In fact you should allow for a buffer of several pounds over your weight to account for times when you may be wearing a backpack and/or protective clothing.

The most common weight capacity range of today’s scooters is between 150 – 250lbs.

Anything smaller than that is probably de signed for children or young adults.

Again, the high performance scooters with their stronger batteries, longer travel range, and higher maximum speed will also have greater weight capacity. For instance, the QIEWA Q1Hummer Electric Scooter reviewed above, has a maximum weight of 550lbs.

Weight & Portability

glion scooter being carried

The actual weight of the scooter is also important. If you will be carrying it after use for any period of time, you will want a light and portable model.

Will you ne storing beneath your desk at work, or will you need to fit the scooter in your trunk on occasion? If so, you will also want something that folds away with ease.

Some models come with convenient carry bag, or can be folded so that they can be wheeled around with ease.

Most mid-priced scooters with a range designed for the average commuter will weigh between 25 and 30lbs.

The higher performance models will often be much heavier than this due to their dual motors and larger batteries.

Overall build quality

Overall build quality and the materials used to construct the frame and folks is another variable you need to consider when buying an electric scooter.

Generally, a cheaper model will use inferior materials (thin, non-reinforced steel for instance) that will not provide the longevity and strength you can expect from more premium scooters.

Electric scooters with frames made from all tubular steel and components made from non-corrosive aluminum are recommended.

Thick plate steel constructions also provide the level of strength you will want from a vehicle that is traveling at speed.

nanrobot brake system

Brakes are clearly an important part of the safety of the electric scooter. You will want to ensure that the right type of braking system is employed for the level of speed you can expect to get out of the scooter.

There are four main brake types:

a. Electric and regenerative brakes

Electric and regenerative brakes are generally fitted onto scooters with low top-end speeds. This is because this type of braking system is not powerful enough to stop you and the scooter when traveling at speeds above 15mph.

b. Foot brakes

A foot brake is what you will find on non-motorized scooters and electric models with low maximum speed.

The foot brake is applied by pushing your foot down on the rear fender, causing stopping friction on the rear wheel.

c. Drum Brakes

Drum brakes are fitted within the wheel hub and can be found on many mid-priced electric scooters. These require lower maintenance and work well in wet conditions.

They are generally activated via a handle brake control.

d. Disc brakes

Disc brakes are used on mid-priced scooters as well as high-performance scooters as they have the best stopping power.

Again, these are activated via a handle brake control and work well in most conditions.

There are two types of tire available for electric scooters:

a. Pneumatic tires

Pneumatic tires are the most common type of tire across all ranges of electric scooters.

They provide a comfortable ride as they have the built-in advantage of air-based shock absorption.

The tires can also be large enough on high-performance scooters to feature deep tread for improved and handling and traction.

The disadvantage of pneumatic tires is that they require more maintenance; they are prone to punctures and if tire pressure is reduced without you realizing, it will have a direct impact on the performance of the scooter in terms of speed and range.

b. Airless tires

Airless tires have the benefit of not requiring maintenance. However, they do provide a bumpy ride.

Some commuter electric scooters will opt for specially designed airless tires that are more comfortable on the rider while providing that convenience on never getting a puncture.

Other Features

SG5-Electric-ScooterScooters vary in additional features they offer, and this too is worthy of research.

For instance, the Swagger 5 reviewed above has Bluetooth smartphone connectivity so you can download an app to obtain extra features such as GPS tracking and speed data, etc.

Other scooters may have built-in LED screens with speed data. Some even have USB ports for charging your devices while on the move.

There’s carry bags, kickstands and even warning bells that may be part of the package. Consider what’s important to you and purchase accordingly.
